Miracle Sunday

Hey everyone!

This week was truly miraculous. So I'll get right into it. I got a new companion Elder Sorensen. He and I both felt we could find two people who are ready to be baptized this transfer, (it's his last transfer) so we prayed to find them and have been working to do so. Well if anyone has been on a mission they'd know how hard it is to get people to come to church. By time Sunday rolls around we had one person we knew of coming and that was a miracle in itself. But as we are greeting everyone before sacrament meeting the first investigator I just mentioned comes in and actually came! I shook his hand and he sat down ready for church. Well after that we have a member come up to us and say the person sitting behind them wants to be baptized. My companion and I look at each other like.......what? So we walk over and meet this guy who's name is josh. He is the fiancé of a less active member and has been reading and praying about the Book of Mormon, knows it's true, and wants to be baptized. This was too good to be true! But it was true! We taught him his first lesson right after church and he's on track for it! Well the third miracle of the day was a member brought their neighbor to church as well! That's almost unheard of! We met him and then sacrament started and everyone had a fantastic time. They then came to gospel principles and we taught about the Book of Mormon and why it's here. The lesson was so powerful as the spirit testified and the class was PACKED. We ended with elder Hollands testimony of the Book of Mormon and it was icing on the cake. So two investigators showing up that we didn't even have to find and wanting to learn more, so dang cool.

So this week's was a lawn we mowed I'll just let the picture explain why it's worth mentioning.

Below is the lawn, yeah. Texas has some serious lawns.

I love you all and hope everything's goin well.

Thanks Mom!

Hey Mom!

This week has been awesome, and that talk I might have read a bit of it. It talked about how his wife let the missionaries in as a little girl. And how it was the last door on the 4th floor the missionaries knocked on. Way way cool.

So yeah I am now on my 5th companion of the mission which is insane! 2 in the MTC and 1 per transfer in the field. My new companion Elder Sorensen is awesome, unfortunately that baptism that I was at was one of Elder Sorensen's old investigators in a different area so I actually wasn't involved at all in the teaching but I was there. The bishop and his wife talked to us forever though and wanted a picture, they were really nice people. And Sister Smith always love taking pictures of us when there's a new guy so I'm glad you are getting em.

My new companion is on his last transfer so I'll have a new companion again in six weeks! The Lord is either trying to get something across to me or to them I'm not sure which yet. It sounds like the family is doing well and such. It's fun you went to Brandon's farewell I'm glad he's goin on a mission. That does remind me, so you don't have to allow it, but can Courtney be there when I skype on Christmas and Mother's Day? I hope you text her and hang with her still, she loves hanging out with you and since I'm not there to see movies with you and dad hates them, who better than her! But ya I had that thought.

I think you and Sister Smith here would be good friends. Maybe when I come back to visit the family should come with and you can meet them. They are awesome. They definitely have the southern accent and it's great.

I really like all the quotes you find, I don't think there is anyone who is as sensitive to the spirit as you in giving me the quotes I need. It helps a lot and I'm thankful for you mom. A lot of the stuff you taught me to be and do as a kid are really helping a lot now so thanks for helping me turnout to not be a slob. I don't know if I told you but pretty much our whole Ward here are attorneys so it's funny to see their conversations in comparison to yours based on whose point of view it's from.

Something I did want to tell you about that has been a huge huge blessing. So as you know I have been bumming off the Smith's extra bike for this area. Well sooner or later I'd need one and guess what, I have one now! Let me explain. My last companion Elder Christensen had a bike he got from another missionary that is a really really really nice bike. Well he is on his last two transfers and he's in a car area for them so he didn't need his bike anymore. I asked if I could buy the bike off him and bless his soul, he was like, "no you can't but you can have it." I told him there was no way he could just give me his bike but he insisted no matter how much I persisted. So I don't know what you've been praying for or what happened but the Lord has provided. I really tried to do something for Elder Christensen but he refused it and told me he was leaving his bike here no matter what and wanted me to have it and ride it. What a blessing!

I love you mom! Your the best and I'm thankful for everything you've taught me. God definitely blessed me with the best mom to come down to. Give Molly a big hug for me.

Cam

PS could you send me a picture of my assassin drawing? And for future, a light brown belt and shoes, the ones that are in style with blue slacks and stuff these days, would be super cool. Not anytime soon but if you're ever itching to get something.

Preachers, Chickens, and Service

So this week has been great! So many fun things we have done and transfers are today so lots of fun!

First off we had this experience that was pretty awesome. We were riding our bikes on a bike trail and this guy was running and reading a book so we stopped him to ask what was so important to him to read. It was a study book for his seminary in the bible to become a preacher.
We then talked to him about what that entails and how long he's been in it etc. etc. We were kind of iffy because I had yet to have a pleasant conversation with a preacher of any kind but maybe this guy was different. He asked what we believed and who we were and we told him.
He was like "oh yeah I know who you are! I really respect your dedication to the work!" We asked if he had ever had the chance to read the Book of Mormon and he said he didn't want to but he knew what it was about, he then gave an actually very honest and correct background on the Book of Mormon! He didn't bash it or anything he just said he believes differently but can respect it. We were pretty astonished, he asked us to give him the 3 minute version of our message so we shared the restoration and then had a great discussion on beliefs and doctrine. No bashing or anything just very cool conversation and respect for one another. Funny thing was is he explained how we believe differently about the trinity and said they are all one being, then explained how they are three completely separate beings based on the bible, and then ended the thing with, "but they are all one and not separate." We were so confused at how people can be confused on it when they literally explain them as three different beings! Pretty funny. But he was very nice and we actually were able to share some things he didn't know about and was interested in hearing. We left him a card on the articles of faith and away we went. He friended us on Facebook later that day without us even saying we had one. Was way cool!

So this week we were coming out of an appointment from a complex and see this walking around the complex in the middle of the city.
We found out from the management as we were coming out and asked why there was this chicken is the complex. The chicken belongs to the management office. Who would have thought?!! 🐔🐔🐔🐔

We did a lot of service this week and by the way this is how the bathroom looked before that we were remodeling (sorry we are in the way) And here is after with a little bit of things left to do.
Pretty big change! (See pictures)

I leave you with my testimony that this church is the only true church of Jesus Christ! That personal revelation is real and it comes in many forms, lately a lot I have had it come from the Book of Mormon. That book is the word of God. Read it, read it again, read some more, then read it through again. Pray the whole way and you will know that it is true. What joy can be found in repentance! I testify that repentance brings joy and any pain of the process is swallowed up in the joy you will have! It's Satan that wants you to wait, that wants you to hide, repent quickly and receive the spirit that "you may always retain a remission of your sins!" There is so much liberation, so much freedom, and so much happiness in repentance. We aren't here to suffer, we can have joy in this life through the gospel of Jesus Christ. I want that clear that I invited all who read this to repent quickly and find new life in Christ! Why wait to stop the suffering!? Let yourself have joy, let yourself be refined, let yourself be healed through our savior. I promise it is there and that his atonement is waiting. Discover new life in Him. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Goals

Hey y'all!

This week was a slow one. My companion Elder Christensen got sick and we had to stay inside to help him get better. So during this time I had a lot of time to study and watch things like the restoration and the testaments.

What I do wish to share is the power of writing down goals and plans. Goals and plans really help in life a ton. When we write them down it shows the Lord our real intent. We then think it out and show our plans to reach them. After that the Lord really brings you higher than ever and helps you reach your goals. I started setting goals that I wanted to complete to improve and after setting plans everything fell into place. How amazing it is to show our real intent and how the Lord blesses us with help and strength to complete the goal. I would invite you all to try it out. Write them down and review it often. You will reap the rewards and come closer to Christ as you seek righteous goals.

So this week we did some more service and a tool that I thought was amazing is what I want to talk about. It's called a hammer shot, we were framing this other wall and had to shoot nails into concrete. So this member pulls out this night stick looking thing. What it is I found out is the barrel of a .22 gun that you hit the back of with a hammer and it fires off a blank that shoots a nail into the ground like a bullet. Probably the coolest thing I've ever seen. Didn't get to use it obviously because mission rules but fun to watch.

Sorry about the short letter! Just know that this gospel is true! That Christ really does love and he is leading this church today. That repentance is our way to salvation and we shouldn't fear it. I love you all and hope everyone has a great week.

Hey Cam:

I don't know if you remember Sept 11, 2001 or not but today is the anniversary of when the twin towers in NY were hit by terrorists as well as the Pentagon and Flight 93 when some of the passengers overtook the terrorists and crashed the plane into a field.  Kind of started this whole terrorist mess we are in now.  But I am grateful for the people that have helped defend our country since that time and the people that responded to help those that survived.  Crazy to think that was 15 years ago.

So, did you get my package with your books in it and a little surprise.  Hopefully you did.  In the surprise was an awesome letter from Drew.  He put so much effort into it.  Haha, not.  Don't ya love the Hi.....Love, Drew.  He is such a nerd.  This year seems to be going better for him at school.  He seems to not be daydreaming as much and focusing more at school.  He doesn't have a lot of math to do in the evenings and is getting most of his work done at school.

Molly's eyes were really gross and I had to take her to the vet on Thursday.  They prescribed some eye ointment and an antibiotic.  Well most dogs like hot dogs and that is what you hide the pill in and they eat and all is well.  Go figure that dumb bean doesn't like hot dogs.  So I have been using little pieces of bread and making bread pills with the pill hidden in the middle.  That works like a charm.  She is so weird.  She is doing good though and her eyes are just fine now.  I was cutting up apples to have with dinner and she came running and begging for them.  Of course, I had to share with her.  Goofy dog.

Dad's diet is going well.  His feet seem to be getting better.  I think its more the electrical stim on his feet (shock therapy like they do on your back at the chiropractor) than anything.  But the healthy eating isn't bad either.  It's basically lots of fruits and vegetables, meat, no bread or refined white grains yet.  At the end of the 30 days he can have beans, brown rice and add a few other meats in.  So we have all been eating a little better.  That syrup lemon juice drink wasn't terrible but glad that is over with.

So you have to tell me if those cookbooks I sent have been a help or not.  Just curious.  And let me know if you need anything k.

Uncle Jake has been out of a job for about 4 weeks.  He has been interviewing and submitting applications.  Well he has had 4 interviews with Gamestop.  Yes I said Gamestop.  Apparently they are a Fortune 300 company and they also own the tech divisions of Spring Mobile and Simply Mac if I understand Dearie correctly.  They want a final interview with him and are flying him to Salt Lake for an interview on Thursday.  They are really hoping he gets this job because they will be able to move back to Utah.  VERY EXCITING!!!!!  Yes, I am a little excited.  So we have been praying that they will get a good job that will be good for their family and hopefully move back to Utah.

All is well on the home front.   Honestly, kind of the same old same old.  I did read a good article in the Ensign this month on missionary work.  It is Seeking Etiene.  It was kind of about following promptings and not letting opportunities pass you by.

Love you Cam and let me know if you need anything.  Hope you are enjoying that yummy BBQ food and all is well with your investigators.  We pray for you and them.

Love you!!

Mom

Quote for the day/week that was on the Mormon Channel: In the world ye shall have tribulation but be of good cheer I have overcome the world.  John 16:33
Drew and Haden are both loving golf a lot. Sorry about your companion. Tell I said to feel better and I will pray for his quick recovery. There is just the one cookbook.  Dad is jealous about the bread for sure. Haha you're such a turkey.
I'm glad the tie looks good.
Love ya!!
Hey Mom,

Yes I didn't even realize it was 9/11, I don't remember it specifically but I know plenty about it since I seem to be a source for conspiracy theorists to argue with and many have tried to tell me
many ridiculous things on the subject during my high school classes. So ya I'm glad you reminded me because I didn't even remember. It's good to hear about Molly too, that's funny she doesn't like hot dogs. Since when are dogs picky? Least she likes bread though. I bet dad is jealous she gets bread and he doesn't. I'm glad Drew is doing better too. There is a kid in e Ward named drew that is pretty much the same exact kid but he is 5 or so. They call him drewby and everything too so dinner was a Deja Vu kinda deal. The cookbooks I haven't used just yet but I plan to, I only have the one? I don't remember a second one. But I did get the tie and little books and that is a solid tie. Matches my gray suit so well it should be illegal. Tell Jake if he gets this job there better be some benefits for extended family in purchases as a faithful member of GameStop hehehehehe. That's awesome though they might get to move back to Utah.

Tell Drew I love him and I'll write him a big letter when I get more than a Hi haha, no he's awesome. I heard he has been into golf and such, how's he liking it? My zone leader is a way good golfer and thinks more people should play it.

My week has been slow. My companion has been sick so I've been trying to help him get better and such but doin well.

Love you mom!

Service

Hey y'all!

This week has been packed! We did 16 hours of service this week! As well as more lessons we've had in a while! So many blessings it's hard to count them all!

So last Monday night we had a miracle happen. We had an hour left in the day and we wanted to use it well so we said a prayer and went out. We started walking around our apartment complex and the first guy we see is up on his balcony. We offered him a card and he flipped around and came outside. He asked us who we were and we told him about the church. He relayed to us the amount of trials he has been having and was in so much need of the gospel. It was a huge testimony builder of how much this gospel helps people. Seeing someone's life without it is truly as if we were wondering in a forest trying to find eternal life. Without the authority of God and apostles to guide us through we will become lost. But this gospel is truly the guide. Following Christ is always get you to eternal life.

We have been, as I said, doing crazy amounts of service this week and it has been extremely edifying. What has been done is this brother in the Ward asked if we wanted to help him remodel the bathroom and garage into a room for his home teaching family. We have gotten to destroy the bathroom with hammers, build tons of stuff, and really provide some awesome service for someone in need. We also helped another brother build a garden for a sister in the Ward. Service really brings you closer to God. If you want to feel God's love, serve your neighbor. If someone's in need, give up of your substance and time and help them. It is truly amazing the love you will feel and the joy you will have.

Dallas Daze

So this comes from remodeling the bathroom. We were smashing out walls of drywall and destroying it. Sooooo much fun. But while I was taking care of one wall, my companion was smashing this wall and another brother from the Ward is all, "is that ash????" Well we all turn and here is what we find in the wall.

This poor little guy. But they are EVERYWHERE here and not super surprising for everyone else. I on the other hand was quite mortified.

My message this week really is all about service. Service will bring you nearer to God and is such a blessing. When we turn outward and not think of ourselves, is when we truly find ourselves. Sacrifice of time, money, talents, and the things the Lord has blessed you with for the benefit of others will come back ten fold. I invite all to find a service they can do this week, anything. If it is small, do it! Small and simple things bring about great things! What service can you render for your brothers and sisters this week?

I testify of our savior and the reality of his atonement. I testify he lives and that the Book of Mormon is true. Read it often and the spirit will unfold its message to you. I know this church to be true. Follow Christ and don't stop.

Love you all!
Elder Hiatt

Hey Mom!

So I would like those little journal things in my room, they are small black notebooks on my side table with my lamp. I wanna use them for a study journal.

I hope everything is going well and that the diet is working out well. Dad sounds pretty convinced and I'm happy for him.

I love you mom! I have really found an appreciation for all you've done for me and I am thankful for a mom like you. Thanks for being awesome!

Also, if I need to get gifts for like birthdays or for like Christmas later in life, am I allowed to use my card or what do I do?

Love
Cam
